After college, Steve was commissioned an officer in the US Army, spending 4 years leading troops in southern Germany near the end of the Cold War. After his service, Steve took leadership roles in manufacturing operations with Nestle, moving into logistics and industrial performance roles before finding success in Labor Relations and HR. Steve’s career culminated in his role as CHRO of the newly acquired St. Louis-based Purina Petcare business, where he served until his retirement in 2023.
Throughout his tenure, Steve managed the succession of several CEOs and leadership teams, while designing and leading the succession/people development practices that produced them. He spearheaded multiple restructuring efforts and transformations, assessed M&A targets, and integrated businesses. Steve’s extensive global travel exposed him to every culture on the planet, contributing to his deep understanding of managing and leading in a global organization.
Steve is deeply committed to philanthropy and serving the community. He currently serves as President of the Board of Directors for Starkloff Disability Institute, is Vice President of the Board of Directors for Joybound People and Pets and is Board Secretary for Catholic Charities of St Louis. Steve continues to support his alma mater, La Salle University in Philadelphia, where he was a trustee for two terms, and Guardian Angel Settlement Association in St Louis, where he served as a board member and board chair for many years.
In his spare time, Steve enjoys reading history, staying fit, following college basketball (especially his La Salle Explorers), spending time with family and friends, and spoiling his 7-year-old Labrador Retriever, Angel.
